Connie Walkershaw
Connie comes from a long line of well dressed and crafty women. She learned sewing from her grandmother, who looked after her after school. Muriel (the grandmother) was a very well put together survivor of the depression, who knew her way around a piece of fabric, a pair scissor, and sewing machines of many ages and stripes.
Ms Walkershaw's first fashion job was in resuscitating and recutting old clothes into vintage wear for the Castro's first Retro Boutique "Old Gold". She soon started her own label "Walkershaw Clothing"which was carried in shops from Union Street here in town to Soho in New York.
When her own child was young, she discovered how much she enjoyed teaching her daughter and her young friends the art of sewing, much as she was taught by her grandmother. Not one to waste an epiphany, Connie started SEW as an appropriately scaled school to share her methods of creating fabric art, whether for fashion, or other practical aspects of sewing and pattern making.
Connie is also a musician of the first order, and if you ask her nicely she will invite you to come see her perform live around town.
